JERUSALEM, October 28, 2026 (WAFA) — Israeli authorities forced on Wednesday a Palestinian resident of occupied Jerusalem to demolish his own home in Silwan, south of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The Jerusalem Governorate said Israeli authorities forced Musa al-Awar to demolish his home in the Ein al-Lawza neighborhood of Silwan.
Israeli authorities routinely force Palestinians, particularly in occupied Jerusalem, to demolish their own homes under the pretext of lacking building permits. Those who refuse face demolition by Israeli bulldozers and are charged hefty costs for the operation.
The Israeli municipality in Jerusalem withholds building permits from Palestinians while demolishing their homes or forcing them to demolish them themselves. The practice contravenes international laws and humanitarian principles that guarantee the right to housing, and forms part of what the governorate describes as systematic efforts to forcibly displace Palestinians from Jerusalem while expanding settlements in the city and its surrounding areas.
