Palestinian documentary “One Month in Ramallah” wins international award in London

RAMALLAH, June 18, 2026 (WAFA) – The documentary "One Month in Ramallah," directed by Palestinian filmmaker Sawsan Qaoud, achieved international recognition by winning the Women's Solutions Reporting Award at the One World Media Awards 2026 held in London.

The award acknowledges media works that highlight influential leadership figures and human experiences that inspire change and strengthen communities' resilience.

Over the course of a month, the film chronicles daily life in the Ramallah and Al-Bireh Governorate, focusing on the work of Governor Laila Ghannam. It sheds light on her role in addressing citizens' concerns and managing the governorate's affairs amidst the complex political and humanitarian realities imposed on Palestinians by the occupation.

Through this daily observation and the details of official and community work in the governorate, the film offers a glimpse into the life of a city experiencing its daily contradictions between pain and hope.

It documents human stories that reflect the loss and constant pressures faced by Palestinians, while simultaneously showcasing their exceptional capacity for cohesion, solidarity, and perseverance. It also highlights community efforts and initiatives that form lifelines and sources of hope in the face of escalating challenges.

In this work, the director offers a visual and human testimony to the reality of Ramallah, not only as a city living under occupation, but also as a vibrant space of life, will, and resilience, where everyday details transform into stories reflecting the strength of Palestinian society and its adherence to dignity and identity.

Qaoud emphasized that this win represents recognition of the Palestinian narrative and the human stories the film carries. It reflects the importance of conveying the Palestinian voice to international platforms through professional works that shed light on the human reality of Palestinians, moving beyond mere statistics and abstract headlines.

The film was produced and broadcast by Al Jazeera English and offers a close, observational account of daily governance and community life in Ramallah.
