Israel postpones trial of Jerusalem governor

JERUSALEM, January 20, 2026 (WAFA) – An Israeli military court postponed the trial of Jerusalem Governor Adnan Ghaith to a later date on Tuesday.

The Jerusalem Governorate reported that the court held a new hearing for Ghaith this morning but adjourned it, citing his alleged violation of previously issued military orders against him.

The court had previously postponed Ghaith's trial, which was scheduled for January 4, until today.

Adnan Ghaith has been subjected to a series of arbitrary measures since assuming his position as Jerusalem Governor in 2018. During this period, the Israeli occupation authorities imposed harsh military orders against him, including banning him from entering the West Bank and restricting his movement to a narrow geographical area limited to his neighborhood in Silwan. He has also been prohibited from contacting 51 national and official figures, including Palestinian political and security leaders.

The occupation imposed a house arrest order on Ghaith for more than two years in his home in Silwan, south of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, in an attempt to cut him off from the political and national scenes in the occupied capital.
