BETHLEHEM, January 19, 2026 (WAFA) – Children in Aida refugee camp, north of Bethlehem, expressed their deep rejection of an Israeli decision to demolish the camp’s playground, sending clear messages to the world in defense of their right to play.
During a rights-based event organized by Alrowwad Cultural and Arts Society, children held signs bearing messages that reflected their opinions and feelings, emphasizing that the playground is an essential space for their childhood dreams, not merely a sports facility.
They also affirmed their right to practice sports, just like children everywhere else in the world.
Ribal AlKurdi, Executive Director of the Alrowwad Society, said that the playground is facing the threat of demolition after Israeli authorities issued a notice on November 3rd prohibiting its use in preparation for its demolition, under the pretext of lacking a permit. He emphasized that the land is legally leased and that all legal and administrative procedures were completed before construction.
AlKurdi added that the stadium is a major outlet for the children and youth in the densely populated camp, which is home to more than 7,000 refugees living on an area of no more than 0.65 km².
