Cabinet calls for urgent action to confront Israeli plans to build 17 new colonial settlements in occupied West Bank

RAMALLAH, December 9, 2025 (WAFA) – Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa opened the weekly Cabinet session on Tuesday, updating ministers on the latest contacts and political efforts led by President Mahmoud Abbas and the relevant authorities to defend the rights of the Palestinian people in all international forums.

The Cabinet urged swift Arab, Islamic, and international action to confront the Israeli occupation authorities’ announcement of plans to establish 17 new colonial settlements in the occupied West Bank over the next five years.

It underscored that these aggressive policies will not bring security to any side in the short or long term, stressing that all unilateral measures are driving the region toward greater tension and instability.

Regarding developments in the Gaza Strip, the Cabinet reviewed the efforts of government teams and partner international institutions to support and assist Palestinians under the umbrella of the Government Operations Room.

In this regard, it emphasized the need to move to the second phase of the plan to halt the war and to accelerate recovery and reconstruction arrangements in the Strip.

The Cabinet also denounced the Israeli occupation forces’ raid on Monday on the headquarters of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of East Jerusalem, along with the seizure of the agency’s property.

It warned of the catastrophic repercussions of these illegal Israeli violations targeting a UN organization that provides indispensable services to the Palestinian people, in accordance with the provisions of the United Nations Charter.

The Cabinet also condemned the Israeli occupation forces’ raid on Birzeit University and Al-Quds University in the town of Abu Dis, describing it as a grave violation of international humanitarian law, which forbids attacks on educational institutions as protected civilian objects. It stressed that such an attack comes as part of the systematic Israeli targeting of the educational process at Palestinian universities.

The Cabinet further approved an emergency project, to be carried out by the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, to rehabilitate the main streets in Al-Far'a refugee camp, in order to address the repercussions of the Israeli aggression and strengthen citizens’ steadfastness.
