Israeli author David Grossman describes war on Gaza as "genocide"

RAMALLAH, August 2, 2025 (WAFA) - Prominent Israeli author David Grossman described what is happening in the Gaza Strip as “genocide.”

“For many years, I refused to use that term, ‘genocide,’” Grossman told the Italian daily La Repubblica, adding: “But now, after the images I have seen and after talking to people who were there, I can’t help but use it.”

Grossman stated that he remains desperately committed to the idea of two states, mainly because he sees no viable alternative.

When asked about France and the UK being among the latest countries preparing to formally recognize a Palestinian state, Grossman said: “I actually believe it’s a good move, and I don’t understand the hysteria surrounding it here in Israel.”

He said that very clear conditions would be necessary: no weapons, and a guarantee of transparent elections that exclude anyone who advocates violence against Israel.

Grossman’s writings, translated into numerous languages, have earned him multiple international awards.
