RAMALLAH, February 5, 2024 (WAFA) – The Executive Office of the Popular Committees for Refugees stated that the UNRWA Education Department began circulating a decision to replace the fifth-grade Arabic textbook with another one omitting units and paragraphs on the Palestinian people’s political struggle.
In a statement, the Executive Office for Refugees characterized this action as a deliberate plan aimed at obliterating the national thought and legacy that has been built through the sacrifices of the Palestinian people.
It stressed that there have been previous and recent attempts to change the curricula per instructions issued by the UNRWA administration to the Agency’s Educational Resources Department, which organized dozens of workshops, including most importantly the Dead Sea Conference and its outcomes, which called for the gradually changing the educational curricula.
The Office noted an intensification of the imminent dangers to the refugee issue so that they would involve the destruction of refugee camps as part of the wider schemes to displace Palestinians.
It called on the popular committees in refugee camps to follow up on the educational process in schools in the camps, and to carry out activities in rejection of the decision.
