Islamic Fatwa Council condemns occupation's demolition of mosque in Jenin, prayer hall south of Jerusalem

JERUSALEM, January 29, 2025 (WAFA) - The Islamic Supreme Fatwa Council in Palestine unequivocally condemned the demolition of Hamza Mosque in Jenin refugee camp and a –Taqwa prayer hall in Sur Baher town, south of Jerusalem, by the Israeli occupation authorities.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Council emphasized that this crime constitutes an integral part of the ongoing escalated aggression against the Palestinian people, their holy sites, land and homeland. It further stated that these demolitions are part of continued efforts to impose a new reality aimed at undermining the identity and religious heritage of the Palestinian people.

The Council underscored that targeting mosques through such aggression amounts to an attack on the Palestinian people’s right to practice their religious rituals, exacerbating hatred and animosity across the region and the world.

The Council called for urgent Arab and Islamic action to halt the Israeli violations against Palestinian sanctities.

It appealed to the Arab and Islamic nations to assume their responsibilities towards Jerusalem and Palestine, defend them and protect their sacred sites and people from the ongoing violations by the occupation authorities, who are wreaking havoc across the Palestinian territories at all levels.

The statement also noted that the silence of the international community in the face of these crimes only encourages the occupation to persist in its violations.
