Researcher warns of imminent implementation of "Rose Marine" colonial project to expand Jerusalem colony

BETHLEHEM, January 26, 2025 (WAFA) – A researcher specializing in colonialism and the separation wall affairs warned today of Israeli authorities' imminent implementation of the "Rose Marine" colonial project, which aims to significantly expand the ‘Beitar Illit’ colony, built illegally on Palestinian land within occupied Jerusalem.

In an interview with WAFA, researcher Hassan Breijieh stated that the plan will effectively sever the link between the village of Husan and the town of Nahalin, situated to the west of the city. This division will be enforced through the completion of paving and expansion efforts on Colonial Road No. 375.

"The 'Beitar Illit' colony will be connected to a signal-free road south of Jerusalem via road No. '375'," Breijieh explained. This road will ultimately converge with the tunnel road on Colonial Road 60. To expedite this connection, the authorities plan to eliminate traffic lights along the expanded road.

The project also includes the construction of a light rail transit system, connecting occupied Jerusalem directly to the 'Beitar Illit' colony.

Concurrently, he said, a separation wall will be erected along road No. "375" on the northern side, towering above the road. Furthermore, a security zone will also be established along the road's northern and southern flanks.

The researcher highlighted that the plan includes the establishment of a crossing point between Nahalin and Husan. However, this crossing point will strictly limit the entry and exit of Nahalin residents from the southern direction.

The implementation of this project will inevitably lead to the seizure of hundreds of dunums of Palestinian citizens’ land, he stressed. These lands are located in the areas of Abu al-Hassan, Wadi al-Ghuwayt, Baniyas, and Wadi Abu al-Hamra in the western countryside.
