PM Mustafa stresses the need for political path to end occupation

BRUSSELS, January 17, 2025 (WAFA) – Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa Friday stressed the need for a political path conducive to ending the Israeli occupation of the territories of the State of Palestine.

Prime Minister Mustafa made his remarks during a meeting with his Belgian counterpart, Alexander De Croo, in Brussels. The meeting addressed the situation in the Palestinian territories, including the Gaza Strip, and the need to advance the peace process and realize the establishment of the Palestinian State.

He stated that although a ceasefire agreement was reached, but it was not sufficient. He affirmed the need for a political path that would be conducive to ending the occupation, realize the establishment of the State of Palestine and enabling the Palestinian people to gain their legitimate rights to freedom and independence.

He pointed out that the government institutions were ready to step up their work and restore basic services in the Strip, while calling on the European Union (EU) to redeploy a monitoring mission to the Rafah border crossing and help facilitate the entry of relief aid to the Strip.

"The Palestinian ministers have clear instructions on what to do from the moment the ceasefire begins. We have a hundred day plan for the day after," Prime Minister Mustafa said as reported in the Belgian News Agency.

"The ministers of health, education, water and electricity will instruct their teams to deliver as much humanitarian aid as possible as quickly as possible," he added.

He thanked his Belgian counterpart, Alexander De Croo, for the support offered to Palestine at the political, economic and relief levels.

De Croo affirmed his country’s support to the efforts aimed at reaching ceasefire and allowing the entry of relief aid to the Strip, while noting that the two-State solution is the only way to attain peace.

Commenting on the ceasefire agreement, he said that the agreement comes “after an inhuman period for the residents of Gaza, with suffering we cannot imagine.”
