ROME, December 28, 2024 (WAFA) – The World Food Programme (WFP) reported today that the lives of more than two million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have come to a halt, with no access to food, water, or shelter, as the Israeli assault continues into its 15th month.
In a statement shared on the WFP’s X account, the agency highlighted the immense challenges faced in delivering life-saving aid in Gaza, saying: “Despite our best efforts to provide life-saving aid, it is impossible to meet people’s needs in the current scenario of conflict, insecurity and restrictions.”
The WFP emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire, stating that it has come "too late" for the people of Gaza, with daily life completely disrupted. “Life is on pause for over 2 million people without access to food, water, shelter,” the organization stated.
The displaced population in Gaza, now living in makeshift tents made from cloth and nylon, are enduring harsh living conditions, exacerbated by shortages of basic necessities such as clothing, bedding, and coverings, with the winter season worsening their plight.
The ongoing Israeli blockade and military attacks have pushed many regions of Gaza, particularly in the northern governorates, into severe famine. The situation has worsened as the ongoing war and deprivation are forcing more people to flee south.
