Prime Minister meets civil society organizations, stresses national interest and unity as lifeline

RAMALLAH, December 12, 2024 (WAFA) - Prime Minister Dr. Mohammad Mustafa emphasized that strengthening the internal Palestinian situation, prioritizing national interests, and fostering unity among the Palestinian people are crucial for navigating the challenging period facing our cause and our people.

This came during his meeting with representatives of civil society organizations on Wednesday at his office in Ramallah, in the attendance of Minister of Interior Maj. Gen. Ziad Hab Al-Reeh.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister discussed with them the Government’s efforts and plans, including on upholding the rule of law, which requires the collective efforts of all, to safeguard Palestinian national interests, and to protect the rights and dignity of Palestinian citizens.

Mustafa highlighted that, despite limited resources, the Government has spared no effort under the guidance of President Abbas to bolster the steadfastness of the Palestinian people, especially in addressing the impacts of the repeated Israeli occupation aggression on West Bank governorates.

"Our top priority is to end the occupation, halt the aggression on Gaza, and provide relief to our people, as there can be no national project without Gaza," the Prime Minister underscored.

"We want stability in Jenin and the entire Palestinian governorates, relying on the wisdom and efforts of all components of society. All entities, whether civil institutions, Security Establishment, or citizens, must abide by the rule of law and avoid any deviations," Mustafa added.

For their part, civil society representatives emphasized that acts of vandalism against public and private property, as well as gunfire, are red lines and pose significant threats to civil peace. They called for prudence and discipline in addressing these challenges and urged a collective effort from all institutions and organizations to draft a Code of Honor in the Jenin Governorate to set a model for other governorates.

This initiative aims to launch a broader movement encompassing all governorates to safeguard civil peace, prevent bloodshed among the Palestinian people, and withdraw any form of protection or support for individuals who violate the law, engage in unlawful acts or contribute to the destruction of public and private property and hold them accountable.

The representatives stressed the importance of ensuring that everyone is under the rule of law, emphasizing its sovereignty and the need to uphold it without any compromise.

The meeting, which came as part of the Government’s genuine partnership with the civil society, included representatives from the Independent Commission for Human Rights (ICHR), Jerusalem Legal Aid and Human Rights Center, Al-Haq Human Rights Organization, Coalition for Accountability and Integrity – AMAN, Al Dameer Association for Human Rights, Palestinian Initiatives for the Promotion of Global Dialogue and Democracy – MIFTAH, and Center for Defense of Liberties and Civil Rights – Hurryyat.
