CAIRO, Monday, August 26, 2024 (WAFA) - Egypt condemned in the strongest terms the statements made by the extremist Israeli Minister, Itamar Ben Gvir, regarding plans to establish a Jewish synagogue inside the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry, in a statement today, held Israel legally responsible for adhering to the status quo at the Al-Aqsa Mosque and preserving Islamic and Christian sanctities, demanding Israel complies with its obligations as an occupying power, and stop such provocative statements aimed at further escalation and tension in the region.
Egypt also emphasized that these irresponsible statements against the Islamic and Christian sanctities in the Palestinian territories further complicate and aggravate the situation, hinder efforts to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and pose a great danger to the future of the final settlement of the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
