CAIRO, Tuesday, August 13, 2024 (WAFA) - The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, condemned, in the strongest terms, the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli extremists, led by the far-right ministers Itamar Ben Gvira and Yitzhak Wasserlauf, stressing that those fanatical extremists are pushing the situation to the brink and deliberately provoking the feelings of hundreds of millions of Muslims around the world.
The spokesman for the League's Secretary-General, Jamal Rushdi, said that the storming of the mosque took place under the protection of the Israeli police, who turned the old town into military barracks and imposed restrictions on the entry of worshipers, holding the occupation government fully responsible for this provocative escalation.
He denounced the repeated incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque as a violation of the historical and legal status quo of the city of Jerusalem and as part of the occupation’s systematic policy to impose a temporal and spatial division of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
He stressed that Israel’s attempt to score political points by outraging religious feelings and provoking Muslims is a cheap and dangerous strategy.
