RAMALLAH, Wednesday, September 7, 2022 (WAFA) – For the second day in a row, the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today highlight the Israeli army killing of yet another Palestinian in the occupied territories.
While yesterday the dailies highlighted the army killing of Taher Zakarneh, 19, from Qabatya, today they highlighted the army killing of Mohammad Sabaaneh, 29, from Jenin, and the injury with live bullets of 16 others during an army raid of the northern West Bank city.
The dailies are expected to also highlight in their tomorrow’s edition the army’s killing of another Palestinian, Younis Tayeh, 21, in al-Faraa refugee camp, near Tubas in the northern Jordan Valley.
The dailies said the Israeli army killed Sabaaneh during a raid of Jenin to demolish the family home of Raad Hazem, who was killed following an attack in Tel Aviv in April.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida daily said in its main front-page story that in addition to the killing yesterday of Sabaaneh and the demolition of the Hazem home, the Israeli army raided and detained several Palestinians and demolished structures, and settlers were also let loose to attack Palestinian civilians in the occupied territories.
The paper also said President Mahmoud Abbas met in Cairo with his Egyptian counterpart, Abdul Fattah al-Sisi, and discussed the situation in Palestine.
Al-Ayyam daily said the Cairo summit focused on supporting the Palestinian position.
It also said the US State Department is gathering information on the conduct of an Israeli army unit’s violent behavior against Palestinian civilians in the occupied West Bank.
The third daily, al-Quds, wrote about an Israeli plan to expand the illegal Ramat Shlomo settlement at the expense of lands from Shufat and Beit Hanina neighborhoods in occupied East Jerusalem.
It quoted Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh saying Israel has no right to attack institutions working within Palestinian law, in reference to six human rights and civil society institutions working in Ramallah raided and shut down by the Israeli army last month.
The paper said Jordan has started work to facilitate the movement of Palestinian travelers across al-Karama/King Hussein/Allenby bridge crossing.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida published a story about two young Palestinians whose creative work on a spaceship led them on a 10-day trip to NASA in the United States.
