RAMALLAH, Friday, September 17, 2021 (WAFA) – Israeli forces today quelled a peaceful rally in al-Mughayyir village, east of Ramallah city, causing several to suffocate, according to local sources.
Member of al-Mughayyir Village Council, Marzouq Abu Na‘im, said that Israeli soldiers opened gunfire towards hundreds who took to the streets in protest of the ongoing closure of the eastern entrance of the village and in support of prisoners exposed to brutal mistreatment in Israeli custody, causing several to suffocate from tear gas inhalation.
All suffocation cases were treated at the scene.
Abu Ni‘im added that the Israeli occupation authorities have sealed off the village entrance, a main traffic artery, forcing the villagers to take long detours to reach their workplaces.
Israeli severely restricts Palestinians’ freedom of movement through a complex combination of approximately 100 fixed checkpoints, flying checkpoints, settler-only roads and various other physical obstructions.
Closures besides to other measures, taken under the guise of security, are intended to entrench Israel’s 54-year-old military occupation of the West Bank and its settler colonial project which it enforces with routine and frequently deadly violence against Palestinians.
