RAMALLAH,
Monday, August 23, 2021 (WAFA) – Israeli forces Monday overnight detained five
Palestinians from various parts of the West Bank, according to security
sources.
They
said that Israeli forces rounded up a Palestinian after breaking into his
family house in Birzeit town, north of Ramallah.
While
inside the house, the soldiers assaulted the detainee’s father, who was rushed
to a hospital for urgent treatment.
In
the northern West Bank, the sources confirmed a military raid in Tulkarm city, resulting in the detention of another.
In
Qalqiliya district, Israeli soldiers manning a flying
checkpoint near Jinsafut village, east of the city,
stopped and detained another from the nearby village of Kafr
Qaddum village.
In
the southern West Bank, soldiers detained another after storming and thoroughly
searching his house in Hebron city.
Another,
identified as a resident of Yatta city was detained
after being stopped at a checkpoint at the southern entrance of Hebron.
Israeli forces frequently raid Palestinian houses almost on a daily basis across the West Bank on the pretext of searching for "wanted" Palestinians, triggering clashes with residents.
These raids, which take place also in areas under the full control of the Palestinian Authority, are conducted with no need for a search warrant, whenever and wherever the military chooses in keeping with its sweeping arbitrary powers.
Under Israeli military law army commanders have full executive, legislative and judicial authority over 3 million Palestinians living in the West Bank. Palestinians have no say in how this authority is exercised.
