Abbas tells Hale Palestinian Bid does not Contradict Peace Process

RAMALLAH, September 7, 2011 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas Wednesday stressed to US special envoy for Middle East peace, David Hale, that the Palestinian bid to seek full United Nations membership of a Palestinian state within 1967 borders does not contradict with the peace process, but will end the deadlock that resulted from Israeli intransigence.

Abbas received Hale, along with national security advisor for the Middle East, Dennis Ross, and US consul general in Jerusalem, Daniel Rubinstein, in his headquarters in Ramallah. Hale and Ross are visiting the Palestinian Territory in US attempt to stop the Palestinians from heading to UN.

Abbas informed Hale of the latest developments of the Palestinian situation, particularly regarding the Palestinian bid to seek full UN membership.

Abbas also stressed the Palestinian leadership’s willingness to return to negotiations if Israel accepts terms of reference to the peace process, the two-state solution on the 1967 borders and stopped settlements in the Palestinian Territory.
