RAMALLAH, February 14, 2011 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas Monday accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Salam Fayyad’s government and asked him to form a new government.
Fayyad tendered his resignation to Abbas following a short cabinet meeting in Ramallah. He has been prime minister since June 2007.
Abbas asked Fayyad to form a government that would provide necessary elements to hold national elections and to look after Palestinian interest.
It will focus on enhancing national institutions to establish independent Palestinian state by September.
