Abbas, Abdullah II Condemn Israeli Decision to Demolish 22 Houses in Jerusalem

AMMAN, June 22, 2010 (WAFA) - President Mahmoud Abbass  and King of Jordan Abdullah II condemned an Israeli decision to expel four Palestinian legislators from Jerusalem and another decision to demolish 22 houses in the holy city.

The two leaders held talks with focused on the latest developments in peacemaking efforts to establish an independent Palestinian state on Palestinian national soil and end the suffering of the people in Gaza.

 urged the international community to take prompt and effective steps to lift the illegal and inhumane Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip, and said the siege is a clear violation of international law.

 They discussed steps needed to galvanize a firm international stance to counter Israeli policies which hinder peace efforts.

They stressed the need to stop all unilateral Israeli measures which violate international law and undermine efforts underway to settle the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the basis of the two-state solution.

The President briefed the King on the outcome of his talks with US President Barack Obama earlier this month.

Abdullah briefed Abbas on his meetings with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, British Prime Minister David Cameron and the Norwegian prime minister during his last week trip that took him to the United States and a number of European nations.

Abdullah said that prompt and effective international steps are needed to make headway in peace efforts, and warned that the status quo can't continue as its endangers regional and international peace.
