BRUSSELS, June 1, 2010 (WAFA)-  European Community Organization of Socialist Youth (ECOSY) described the Israeli attack on Freedom Flotilla a violation of international law and “is seriously damaging the important continuation of the peace process and the steps toward stabilization of the region. Attacking people coming to Gaza with humanitarian ships just fuels hatred and resentment.”

It said, “Israeli military attacked on early Monday a humanitarian flotilla in international waters. Activists on board on the ships were killed and many were wounded when the Israeli troops boarded the ships.”

ECOSY vice president Brando Benifei said, “It is a violation of international law and is seriously damaging the important continuation of the peace process and the steps toward stabilization of the region. Attacking people coming to Gaza with humanitarian ships just fuels hatred and resentment.”

Manifestations and demonstrations around the world were arranged, and many social democratic and socialist parties were present in different cities. ECOSY vice president Johan Büser participated in a manifestation in Sweden and ECOSY vice president Brando Benifei in one in Italy.

“In this deep tragedy, I am proud of our political family as a whole. Many of us have made statements and clearly shown that this violation by Israeli troops is unacceptable. Many of us have taken part in demonstrations and manifestations. Now, many of us must raise our voices in the international political arena. The peace process must go on,” ECOSY said.
