BRUSSELS, May 31, 2010 (WAFA) – EU High Representative Catherine Ashton said she is deeply regretted the loss of life as a result of the Israeli military operation against the Flotilla sailing to Gaza.
Ashton extended her sympathies to the family and friends of those killed and wounded in this event.
EU strongly condemned any acts of violence and deplores any excessive use of force. In this regard, on behalf of the EU, the High Representative is requesting a full immediate enquiry by the Israeli authorities.
She said, the continued policy of closure of Gaza is unacceptable and politically counterproductive and the EU calls for the swift and full implementation of UNSC Resolution 1860.
She reiterated call for an immediate, sustained and unconditional opening of crossings in Gaza for the flow of humanitarian aid, commercial goods and persons to and from Gaza.
