JAKARTA, May 29, 2010 (WAFA)- President Mahmoud Abbas said, today in a press conference that the talks he conducted with the Indonesian president were “very successful,” and that he reiterated the appreciation of the Palestinian people to the people and the government of Indonesia, for the continuous and firm support towards our just cause.
President Abbas expressed our congratulation for the successful elections, which had been achieved by the people of Indonesia, saying that this shows that democracy in Indonesia got deep rooted. It was a good opportunity to brief the President on the current situation of the peace process concerning the start of the proximity talks, through American mediation, supported by the Arab countries and the international community. Our goal of these talks is to lead to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, with east Jerusalem as its capital, according to the road map and the Arab peace initiative.
He added, “I reaffirm my commitment to the vision of two state solution through negotiations. I briefed His Excellency about the dangerous situation in East Jerusalem and its holy sites specially Alaqsa mosque, due to the Israeli plans to change its Arab, Muslim and Christian Identity.”
The president informed the Indonesian President on the suffering of our people in Gaza strip and the necessity for an immediate ending of the unjust siege. In this regard, I would like to thank the brotherly people and the government of Indonesia for the financial grant to build Indonesia Hospital in Gaza.
“In addition, I briefed the President on the Egyptian efforts for reconciliation in order to end the Palestinian division, in this regard we hope and we urge Hamas to sign the Egyptian document for reconciliation and national unity, which we had already signed for the sake of our people’s cause, and the national interest,” he said, “we reviewed our bilateral relations which had always been brotherly and excellent. I cease this occasion to express my deep gratitude and thanks to the people of Indonesia and its leadership. We are confident that Indonesia will continue its support to the Palestinian struggle for ending the occupation of our land specially East Jerusalem and its holy sites.”
Finally I take this opportunity to express to Your Excellency and to your people my personal thanks and appreciation for your kind reception and hospitality. Mr. President, this is my second visit to your beautiful country, our relations are getting deeper and deeper, your solidarity makes us stronger and stronger. We hope that the day in which we will be able to welcome you in Palestine is very soon, so that we can pray together in our first QIBLA (ALAQSA MOSQUE), President Abbas concluded.
