Masked Armed Men Set Fire to UNRWA Summer Camp in Gaza

GAZA, May 23, 2010 (WAFA) - A group of masked armed men torched on Sunday an UNRWA summer camp in Gaza City, the UN agency's Gaza Chief John Ging said.

 'It’s a disgraceful situation (...) we will not be intimidated by such attacks. This location will be rebuilt because we intend to have a successful summer games for the children of Gaza,' he told a press conference.

 UNRWA is the UN agency that takes care of the Palestinian refugees in refugee camp distributed in the Gaza Strip, West Bank, Lebanon, Syria and Jordan.

 Ging said he full believes that perpetrators are inked to extremist groups, affirming that 'It’s an attack on the happiness of children.'

 The camp was ought to be inaugurated next month to provide amusement, sport and cultural services to children in the Gaza Strip.

He also expressed concern over the deteriorated security situation in Gaza, which Hamas militants rule since they siezed it in 2007, affirming that he has no idea who the perpetrators are.

'They came in the dark with masks on their heads. I don’t know who they are. That’s not my job is to provide the services, my job is to rebuild this location,' he said.
