President Abbas Signs Boycott Vow

RAMALLAH, May 22, 2010 (WAFA)- President Mahmoud Abbas signed, today, the 'dignity vow' pledging the boycott of settlement products, and that he would not enter any goods produced in settlements to his home.

He said: we should not, in any way, consume goods produced in settlements built on our lands. We are very proud of our youth, who volunteered to clear Palestinian homes from goods of settlements built on our lands.

He added, that, we do not boycott Israel itself, because we have relations with it, and import from it. However, we boycott goods coming from settlements. We have issued a decree forbidding these products from entering Palestinian markets; a step supported by the international community.

The president demanded Palestinian citizens to boycott these goods, commending the efforts exerted by the youth to persuade citizens to boycott these goods. He said: Europe and other parts of the international community are in favour of this decision because it is just and correct. Settlements are known to be illegal. There are around 15 UN resolutions affirming hat settlements are illegitimate. The president said that no country in the world is against this decision. Statements issued by Europe and those that will be issued by the Quartet, consider settlements illegitimate. Therefore it is completely legitimate to boycott illegitimacy.

The president reiterated that boycotting settlement goods is entirely different from boycotting Israel, and should not be considered incitement.
