Training Palestinian Officials by Palestinian Experts

RAMALLAH, May 22, 2010 (WAFA)- EUPOL COPPS officials participated in the graduation ceremony of a training programme on Project Cycle Management delivered by Palestinian experts and coordinated by EUPOL COPPS.

This is the first time that a training programme is delivered from Palestinians to Palestinians. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh&Co.International has been the entity in charge of delivering this course to 32 Palestinian Civil Police (PCP) Officers and 3 members of the Ministry of Interior.

During the ceremony, PCP Major Jihad N’erat, talking on behalf of the trainees, emphasized “the importance of the Palestinian Ownership and Leadership in the development of our activities (...) I would like to thank the expertise of Talal Abu Ghazaleh and the support of EUPOL COPPS in achieving our goals according to the local Ownership”.

 The training has been funded by the government of Cyprus ($12,200) and co-ordinated by EUPOL COPPS’ Project Manager, Mrs Nadine Habash. The main objective of this course is to provide participants with basic and practical knowledge of the project management methods, skills and tools for the development of different kinds of projects.

The trainees are foreseen to become project leaders for all the PCP projects that will be implemented during 2010-2013 based on the Security Sector Strategy issued by the Ministry of Interior.

In this context, Mr Jari Kinnunen, EUPOL COPPS Lead Police Adviser underlined “the importance of having a good knowledge of the project management methods” highlighting “that these are your projects and you are the main players, we are here only to provide support”.

The graduation ceremony was chaired by the PCP Deputy Chief of Police, Brigadier General Jihad Al Museimi and took place today, 22nd May, at the HQ of the Ministry of Interior in Ramallah.
