GAZA, December 27, 2008 (WAFA)- The Arab World reacted to Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip with protests and official condemnations, demanding international protection to the Palestinian people.
Egypt's Foreign Minister Ahmed Abu Al-Gheit, said that the whole world must stand by the Palestinian people and intervene to stop this blind military action. He also called on Israel to immediately halt its attacks against the Gaza Strip.
Egypt, on its side opened Rafah Border crossing to receive wounded Palestinians as Arab Ministers of Foreign Affairs are to fly to Cairo for an urgent Arab League meeting.
Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Seniora described the Israeli attacks as a 'criminal operation' and 'new massacres to be added to its record full of massacres.'
The Libyan Foreign Ministry called on Arabs to take solid action in 'responding to the Israeli brutality against Gaza,' and urged the international community to intervene to stop the Israeli attacks.
Meanwhile, hundreds of protesters in the Jordanian capital of Amman demonstrated condemning Israel's strikes, while about 4,000 protesters marched through the Ein Al-Hilweh Refugee Camp in the southern part of Lebanon condemning the attacks.
The Jordanian King Abdullah II, called for an immediate halt to 'all military actions', saying the attacks 'targeted innocent civilians including women and children.'
Turkey strongly urged Israel to 'immediately halt' its military operation. 'We strongly condemn the death of many Palestinians as result of Israel's attack on Gaza. We are calling for restraint and an immediate halt of the Israeli operation,' the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated. Turkish non-governmental organizations organized a huge rally in Istanbul protesting the Israeli attacks on Gaza.
