President in Joint Press Conference with Germany FM: We Think to Call Arab and International Intervention to End Disastrous Situation in Gaza Strip

 

 

RAMALLAH, June 2, 2008, (WAFA)-President Mahmoud Abbas said on Monday that we think to call for Arab and international intervention to end the disastrous situation in the Gaza Strip.

 

In a joint press conference in the Presidential HQ in RAmallah with Germany Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President said that we discussed the efforts of calm between Egypt and Israel, hoping to be succeeded as the situation in the Gaza Strip is disastrous.

 

President also said that we spoke about obstacles that hinder the peace process, particularly the settlements in the West Bank, especially in Jerusalem.

 

' We can not accept such procedures perpetrated by Israeli government and we strongly believe that they are obstacles on the path of peace, adding that settlements expansion will hinder reaching a political agreement, ' President said.

 

President also said that we welcome any Arab or international effort to reach a solution with Hamas movement, adding that we had formed a national unity government after Mecca agreement but regretfully it failed after the coup.

 

President thanked the Germany government for its constant support for the Palestinian National Authority in all levels, specially its support for convening a conference on security and eradication in Berlin.
