Israeli Official To Return To Egypt To Discuss Calm In Gaza Strip

JERUSALEM, May 27, 2008, (WAFA)-A senior Israeli defense Ministry official is due to return to Cairo next week for talks in an attempt to reach calm in the Gaza Strip, a ministry spokesman said Monday.

Amos Gilad, a senior aide to Defense Minister Ehud Barak, who was in Cairo on Sunday, will return to Cairo next week,' Israeli Defense ministry spokesman Ronen Moshe said.

The Egyptian-mediated talks on a possible truce have had no concrete result until now, thus increasing the risk of a new outbreak of violence, Israeli military radio reported Monday.

On Sunday, Gilad held talks with the head of Egyptian intelligence Omar Suleiman who has been mediating between Israel and Palestinian militant factions, the official Egyptian agency Mena reported.
