Erekat Says Expanding Settlements Undermines Peace Efforts

RAMALLAH, April 20, 2008 (WAFA) – Head of the PLO Negotiations Affairs Department, Saeb Erikat, said Israel is undermining peace efforts by building more settlements in the West Bank and Jerusalem.

Erekat said Israel has been inviting bids to build settlements since last November, the month in which it had agreed with the Palestinian leadership to resume the peace talks Annapolis Conference.

“This was the issue that still blocks the peace process so far and this thing undermines the efforts which try to make the year 2008 a year of peace,” He told Voice of Palestine radio.

On Friday, Israel said it would expand 100 homes in two West Bank colonies, violating the US-backed Road Map peace plan.
