Abbas Meets Cheney in Ramallah to Push Peace Forward



RAMALLAH, March 23, 2008, (WAFA)- President Mahmoud Abbas meets today with the U.S vice president Dick Cheney in the presidential headquarter in Ramallah city.

Cheney assistants told reporters that Cheney to affirm to Abbas once again U.S President Bush's commitment toward establishing an independent Palestinian state to live side by side with Israel in peace.

They added that the talks meant to tackle the U.S role in halting the Israeli settlements in Jerusalem and the West Bank and how to push the negotiations forward.

In this regard, Nimr Hammad, political chancellor of Abbas called on the US administration to play the role of the mediator between the Palestinian and the Israeli sides so as the efforts exerted to work out.

He added that if the U.S would not powerfully intervene to pressurize Israel, no progress in the peace process would be achieved".
