Sabieh: Kuwait Always Fulfilled its Obligations to Serve Palestine Cause
CAIRO, March 22, 2007 (WAFA) -- Assistant Secretary General for Palestinian and Occupied Territories' Affairs at the Arab League Mohammad Sabieh said Kuwait always fulfilled its financial and political obligations to serve the Palestinian cause, said Thursday.
Speaking to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Sabieh stressed that both Kuwaitis and Palestinians have managed to overcome differences caused by the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990, stating that matters vis-@-vis such issue were of the past.
Regarding the upcoming Arab summit to be held in Saudi Arabia later this month, the Arab ambassador hoped that such event would live up to the current regional developments, adding that the meeting would focus on the Iraqi situation, the Sudanese issue, the Palestinian territories status, the Lebanese political standoff, and the Iranian nuclear dossier.
As for the League's current plans, Sabieh revealed that new committees aimed at solving conflicts among member states would be established, pointing at a possible opening of an Arab Justice Court.
Calls for reinforcing Arab economic cooperation was voiced by the Arab official, saying that there have been suggestions to lower customs' fees and initiating a free-trade zone among Arab countries.
The League's media means must be developed as to manifest the organization's significant role in the region, in order to modify the public's view regarding the summit's decision-making mechanism.
The Makkah agreement, Sabieh said, was brought about through numerous efforts exerted by the League, a fact overlooked by Arab media.
