Jerusalemite begins emptying home after receiving demolition order in Silwan

JERUSALEM, 10 April 2026 (WAFA) - A Jerusalemite citizen began on Friday emptying his home in Silwan town, south of Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem, in preparation for its demolition after receiving a demolition order from the Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem.

The Jerusalem Governorate said that the citizen, Mohammed Khalaf Odeh, began emptying his home in the Al-Bustan neighborhood in Silwan in preparation for its self-demolition, otherwise the Israeli municipality would demolish it and oblige him to pay the exorbitant costs.

The 70-square-meter house shelters Odeh, his wife, and their five children, who have been residing there since 1998.

The municipality imposed fines amounting to around 120,000 shekels on the property, forcing Odeh to demolish his home himself to avoid additional demolition costs and further penalties that may be imposed by the Israeli occupation authorities.
