Al-Quds: Apartheid Wall Destroys Palestinian Sites in Northern Jerusalem

RAMALLAH, December 1, 2005 (WAFA)- In its editorial, "The öApartheid Wall Destroys the Palestinian Sites in Northern Jerusalem," Al-Quds daily said that the reports about ongoing constructing of the Wall, between ar-Ram juncture and Dhahiqt al-Barid suburb, brings to mind the mass devastation of its construction.... However, most of this destruction has been already on the ground and the Wall divides al-Quds-Ramallah street into two halves and obviates air and sunbeam from the two halves, it also prevents contact among the citizens and moreover, produces an economical, social and psychological suffering for the Palestinian people on the two sides of the Wall, Al-Quds said.... It added the Wall also causes lots of impairment for the Palestinian people such as the economical stagnation in the area that extended between Qalandya and Nasseeba Israeli checkpoints. It hinders integrity between citizens of the West Bank and of East Jerusalem. Besides, the area of Beit Hanina, which was subjected to immense fragmentation through the Israeli seizure of its lands in order to install colonies and annex parts of it to the authority of the Israeli municipality of Jerusalem in 1967, has been greatly affected.... Nowadays, the Wall turns this area into a fully besieged ghetto with a narrow road that links it with Beir Nabala.... The daily concluded that if the Israeli authorities' goal is security, they are capable of constructing the Apartheid Wall along 1967 borders, and this is the consensus of the international community. But what Israel has practiced, since occupation until now, brings about a total destruction of the essence of the Palestinian life in general and in north Jerusalem in particular.... M.H.
