RAMALLAH, Saturday, February 29, 2020 (WAFA) – At least 190 Palestinians were injured yesterday when Israeli forces attacked protesters against takeover of a mountain in Beita town in the north of the West Bank, reported the three Palestinian Arabic dailies on their front page today.
They said Palestinians have gathered at al-Armeh mountain in Beita, south of Nablus, in order to defend it against attempts by Jewish settlers to take it over and build a settlement. The Israeli army used gun power to stop the protesters causing injuries from live bullets, rubber-coated steel bullets and teargas grenades, said the papers quoting medical sources.
Similarly, several Palestinians were injured when Israeli forces attacked protesters in the south of the West Bank, and specifically in the city of Hebron, who were commemorating the anniversary of the massacre by a Jewish settler of 29 Palestinians as they were performing the dawn prayer at the Ibrahimi Mosque, and demanding the opening of Shuhada street in the old section of the city which Israel has closed after the massacre.
Al-Quds said thousands of Palestinian Muslims attended the dawn prayers at the Ibrahimi Mosque on this occasion and also at Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, as well as the Friday noon prayers.
It said that Bedouins in the Jerusalem vicinity in an area referred to as E1 are concerned that Israel intends to displace them in order to build the new settlement for Jews with 3500 housing units that would divide the West Bank in half. It quoted Daoud Jahalin, a local leader, saying more than 7,000 people will be displaced if this project is implemented.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the European Union reiterated its call on Israel to stop settlement construction in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Al-Ayyam said the Austrian parliament has criminalized the Israel-boycott movement known as BDS, which in turn has condemned this decision.
The newspaper, as well as the other two, highlighted on their front page today stories about coronavirus and local and world attempts to fight it.
