PLO official slams Netanyahu’s threats against Palestinian Authority

RAMALLAH, Wednesday, February 19, 2020 (WAFA) – A senior Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) official today slammed Israeli Premier Benjamin Netanyahu’s threats to destroy the Palestinian Authority.

Secretary-General of the PLO’s Executive Committee, Saeb Erekat, slammed Netanyahu’s remarks before the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations as unprecedentedly insolent, noting that these remarks revealed the nature of who drafted the US so-called “peace plan”, dubbed “deal of the century”.

Speaking to Voice of Palestine radio, Erekat added that Israel seeks to annex in total 33 percent of the occupied West Bank, a move which the Palestinian leadership would confront through submitting a draft resolution against the plan to the United Nations Security Council.

He expressed his hopes that the United Nations General Assembly would finalize consultations on the Palestinian draft resolution, and that both the International Court of Justice and Human Rights Council would take action against the recently-revealed US plan.

He also slammed Israeli threats to deduct the stipends of slain Palestinians and prisoners from the tax revenues, target President Mahmoud Abbas and build thousands of new colonial settlement units on the former Jerusalem airport site.

“These are racist policies designed to implement the Israeli scheme of destroying the Palestinian Authority,” he stated, and noted that both Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump are interested in restricting the Palestinian Authority’s role to the provision of services to the Palestinian people who would remain under Israeli control.
