Newspaper Review: Injuries during clashes with Israeli forces focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, Sunday, February 16, 2020 (WAFA) – News about the injuries resulting from the clashes that erupted between Palestinians and the Israeli forces in several areas in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem made headlines of the three Arabic Palestinian dailies on Sunday.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida, al-Ayyam and al-Quds said that dozens of Palestinians suffocated from teargas during clashes in the occupied West Bank, while an identified minor was shot and injured in the head with a rubber-coated steel bullet during clashes that broke out in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of al-Issawiya.

The papers reported that President Mahmoud Abbas expressed support for the Chinese government and people’s battle against the new coronavirus epidemic during a meeting with the ambassador of the People‘s Republic of China, Ambassador Guo Wei, in Ramallah.

President Abbas expressed confidence in China’s ability to overcome this challenge, stressing Palestine’s readiness to provide all possible help to stand with China in facing this ordeal.

The dailies said that Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh called upon the International Criminal Court to expedite its litigation procedures during a meeting with ICC’s chief prosecutor Fatou Bensouda on the sideline of the Munich Security Conference 2020.

Shtayyeh said he rejects all attempts to politicize the work of the ICC, calling for the protection of the international judicial system from the pressures practiced by some countries aimed at obstructing its work.

Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said that Saeb Erekat, Secretary General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) said that the Palestinian leadership was seeking to hold an international peace conference to face US President Donald Trump’s so-called “Deal of the Century”.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Amazon ecommerce giant is offering free shipping to illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank and only to the Palestinians if they list their country as Israel, according to the Financial Times.
