RAMALLAH, Sunday, February 2, 2020 (WAFA) - Saeb Erekat, secretary general of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation (PLO) described the collective Arab position at the extraordinary session of the Arab League foreign ministers in support of the Palestinian leadership‘s rejection of US-touted deal of the century as a great victory for president Mahmoud Abbas, leadership, and the Palestinian people.
During an interview with Voice of Palestine Radio, Erekat praised fellow Arabs’ position against the deal of the century which violates international law, stressing that the strategy being carried out now at the Palestinian and international levels is to preserve the principles and terms of reference of the peace process and international law and to reject all proposals and dictations of US ambassador to Israel, David Friedman and US President Donald Trump‘s top adviser Jared Kushner.
Regarding the US-touted deal, Erekat said that the United States did not put a single letter on the political track, but rather copied the 2012 views of Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and the views of settler councils; placing six conditions for Palestinian statehood, including recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and the State of Israel as the nation state of the Jewish people.
He stressed that the US-touted deal is not a peace plan and that there cannot be a solution without ending the Israeli occupation, establishing the independent state of Palestine on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, and resolving the refugees issue.
The League of Arab States Council at the ministerial level rejected on Saturday the US-touted Mideast plan, known as the "deal of the century", slamming it as an unjust plan that does not meet the minimum rights and aspirations of the Palestinian people.
