Newspapers Review: Ongoing protests against US plan focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, Saturday, February 1, 2020 (WAFA) – The ongoing protests in the occupied Palestinian territories in reaction to the American so-called deal of the century and Israeli army crackdown were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies today.

The papers said dozens of Palestinians were injured when Israeli soldiers fired live and rubber bullets at the protesters as well as teargas canisters. Some required hospitalization. They also printed pictures of the clashes and protests in many cities and villages, including in Palestinian cities inside Israel.

They also said Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian villages and chopped trees in the north of the West Bank.

Al-Quds said the Palestinian government is going to take action against an Israeli ban on import of Palestinian agricultural products.

It said Israeli police attacked early yesterday Muslim worshippers performing the dawn prayers inside Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem’s Old City.

It said President Mahmoud Abbas is going to address today the special Arab League meeting of foreign ministers and al-Hayat al-Jadida said Abbas stressed in Cairo following meetings he held with Arab officials after arriving yesterday in the Egyptian capital that no peace, no deal, no understanding and no negotiations without Jerusalem.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted Arab League secretary general Ahmad Abu al-Gheit saying that the Arab nation will succeed in responding to the American plan.

Al-Ayyam said the mission of the delegation going to Gaza will concentrate on only how to face the American plan. Some reports had said the delegation will prepare for a visit for President Abbas to Gaza to also discuss ending the 13-year-long division between the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
