Weather: Low pressure hits the region; rain and thunderstorms expected

 

RAMALLAH, Wednesday, January 08, 2020 (WAFA) – Weather today is  cloudy and very cold in most areas with a drop in temperature as a low-pressure cold front hits the region bringing with it heavy rain, thunderstorms, and hail. Wind gusts are expected to reach 80 kilometers per hour, according to the Palestinian Meteorological Department (PMD).

Winds are southwesterly to westerly, active with strong gusts. Sea waves are high.

Temperature in Jerusalem and Bethlehem is expected to reach a high of 8°C and a low of 5°C and in Ramallah and Hebron, a high of 7°C and a low of 4°C. In Jericho, the Dead Sea and the Jordan Valley, temperature is expected to reach a high of 16°C and a low of 11°C, while it is expected to reach a high of 14°C and a low of 9°C in Gaza and the coastal areas.

The low pressure is expected to continue to affect the country on Thursday and Friday with heavy rain, thunderstorms, and occasional hail, said the PMD, but gradually ends on Friday night.

Temperature is expected to rise on Saturday, while weather continues to be partially cloudy and very cold. A slight chance of scattered rain showers is expected early in the morning, especially in the northern areas.

PMD warned people against the risk of flash floods in low areas and valleys, slippery roads, and gusty winds on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
