RAMALLAH, Sunday, December 22, 2019 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies focused today on the local and international reactions to the announcement by the International Criminal Court on opening an investigation into Israeli war crimes against the Palestinian people.
Al-Ayyam said in its main news story it was told by “well-informed sources” that Israeli government officials are now facing the risk of arrest in 100 countries for crimes committed against the Palestinian people in the occupied territories/
Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Quds said the Fatah Revolutionary Council, which convened in Ramallah on Saturday, considered the ICC announcement as a step forward towards achieving justice for the oppressed Palestinian people.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo decried the ICC announcement, saying, “We firmly oppose this and any other action that seeks to target Israel unfairly”.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida wrote in bold black, “Israeli government officials are facing the risk of arrest in more than 100 countries”.
The three dailies said President Mahmoud Abbas received at his office in Ramallah yesterday the visiting Japan’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Keisuke Suzuki, and discussed with him the latest developments, including efforts to hold general elections in Palestine, including East Jerusalem.
Al-Ayyam said an agreement was signed between Japan and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), under which Japan will provide $11.2 million to help maintain the Agency’s core services to thousands of Palestinian refugees in the Middle East.
