Newspapers Review: Injuries by Israeli gunfire focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, Wednesday, December 11, 2019 (WAFA) – News about several injuries among the Palestinians by Israeli gunfire in several areas in the occupied West Bank hit the front pages of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies today.

Al-Ayyam, al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that five Palestinian workers yesterday were injured while dozens others suffered from suffocation after Israeli forces opened fire towards them to the west of Nazlat Issa village, located to the north of the city of Tulkarm in the north of the West Bank.

The papers said that two youths were reportedly shot and injured with rubber-coated steel bullets fired by Israeli forces during an Israeli raid into the industrial zone in the city of al-Bireh, next to Ramallah, which led to clashes.

They also reported that Israeli settlers fenced off Palestinian land they have razed a few days ago near a resident’s house in Burin village to the south of the city of Nablus.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida added that Israeli forces yesterday conducted multiple raids across the West Bank, detaining 13 Palestinians and ransacking the houses of several former prisoners.

The paper said that Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh called for international pressure on Israel in order to ensure the holding of Palestinian elections in Jerusalem, after overcoming internal obstacles and following the approval of all factions.

President Mahmoud Abbas praised member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council for supporting the Palestinians, as reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida.

The dailies said that The European Union contributed €10 million to support the Palestinian Authority payment of social allowances to vulnerable families in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
