RAMALLAH, Saturday, December 07, 2019 (WAFA) – Each of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies had a different main front page story today with al-Quds highlighting the resumption of March of Return protests on the Gaza border with Israel and the dozens of injuries caused in the Israeli army response to these protests, al-Hayat al-Jadida highlighting the meeting of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and President Mahmoud Abbas’ opening remarks, while Ayyam highlighting the resolution of the US Congress in support of the two-state solution.
Al-Quds said in its main front page story headline: “Dozens injured in the crackdown by the occupation forces on the weekly protests.” It also said in the kicker: “Raids and arrests in the West Bank.”
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said in its front page story headline: “President: Israel is continuing with its attacks against our people, especially in Jerusalem.” It said also: “Executive Committee stresses its determination to confront all attempts aimed at liquidating and dropping the Palestinian cause.” The kicker in this story said that President Abbas stressed during the meeting that “we will not allow the American hospital in Gaza and other projects to pass.”
The dailies shared all these stories, with all the dailies saying the presidency expressed its support for the US Congress resolution and focused on the statement by Abbas that the American hospital in Gaza will not happen, as well as the injuries from the Israeli army crackdown on the protests in the Gaza Strip and West Bank.
The three papers also highlighted Israeli police arresting Palestine TV crew in occupied East Jerusalem while doing the weekly Friday morning show and later releasing them with strict orders not to work for the TV again.
Al-Quds said Israeli Defense Minister Neftali Bennet sent a stern warning to the European Union saying that “we will demolish any Palestinian structure you finance.”
It also said the Moroccan king cancelled his meeting with the US Secretary of State Pompeo, who is on a visit to Morocco, because the later wants to use the meeting to pressure King Mohammad VI to normalize relations with Israel.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Israel turned over the body of Sami Abu Diyak, who died of cancer while in Israeli prison, to the Jordanians for burial by his family there since he carries Jordanian citizenship.
It also said the Foreign Ministry condemned the removal of Palestinian paintings from the World Forum hall at the International Criminal Court.
Al-Ayyam said a Saudi piolet killed three and injured eight in a shooting in an air force base in Florida.
It quoted the Israeli minister of transportation saying that large projects are planned that would lead to the annexation of the occupied West Bank.
