Newspaper Review: Israel’s demolition of five homes in West Bank focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, Friday, November 29, 2019 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies focused today on the demolition by Israeli occupation forces of five homes in the occupied West Bank towns of Beit Kahil and Asira ash-Shamaliya.

They said the Israeli military demolished four homes in the southern West Bank village of Beit Kahil. The homes belong to the families of Ahmad Aref Asafreh and his brother Qassem, Naseer Saleh Asafreh and Yousef Said Zhour, who are in Israeli custody on charges of alleged involvement in the killing of an Israeli settler near the illegal Gush Etzion settlement in August.

A fifth home, the dailies said, was demolished in Asira ash-Shamaliya, the northern West Bank, on the pretext of building without a permit.

The three dailies also focused on the crashing of an Israeli bulldozer into a Palestinian vehicle in Hebron, south of the West Bank, which resulted in the killing of its driver, Mohammad Nassar Nawaj‘a, 56, and the injury of his son.

On a different subject, the three dailies said the Israeli Ministry of Housing is advancing a plan to build 11,000 housing units in the illegal settlement of Atarot, north of occupied Jerusalem.

The dailies also reported that Nir Barkat, former Israeli Mayor of Jerusalem and member of the Knesset, has submitted a draft resolution to the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, to ban the operations of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in Jerusalem.

Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said dozens of hardcore Jewish settlers under Israeli police protection performed proactive tours of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied Jerusalem on Thursday.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Ronen Gilor, the Israeli ambassador to Myanmar, tweeted a message of “good luck” to Myanmar ahead of an international tribunal at The Hague over accusations the state committed genocide against its Rohingya Muslim minority.

Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said Bolivia resumed its relations with Israel after 10 years of estrangement.
