RAMALLAH, Sunday, November 17, 2019 (WAFA) – Two students, aged 13 and 14, were seriously injured after being shot by Israeli forces’ live fire during clashes that broke out in al-Jalazone refugee camp to the north of Ramallah city, said local sources.

Member of the popular committee in the al-Jalazoun, Raed Dlaisheh, said Israeli forces stormed the refugee camp and proceeded to provoke students who were leaving the UNRWA Jalazone Boys‘ School at the end of the school day, leading to clashes in the vicinity of the school.

Rami al-Tayeh, 13, was struck with three bullets in his arm, and Ameer al-Zbaidi, 14, sustained shrapnel injuries in the chest, which necessitated their transfer to hospital for medical treatment. Their medical condition was described as critical.

Jalazone has two schools; the UNRWA Jalazone Boys’ School and the UNRWA Jalazone Girls’ School. Both schools were reconstructed around 2013.

The Boys’ School directly borders an Israeli settlement, making it particularly susceptible to clashes; tear gas canisters, stun grenades and plastic-coated metal bullets have been fired into both schools and a large number of school-aged children have been injured. There have also been several fatalities in and around the camp due to these confrontations, said UNRWA.
