Newspapers Review: Israel plans to seize thousands of dunums of West Bank land

 

RAMALLAH, Tuesday, November 05, 2019 (WAFA) – Israeli plans to seize thousands of dunums of West Bank land for settlement activities were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies today.

They quoted the European Union saying that Israel should end all settlement activities.

The papers also said that Israeli settlers have also dumped waste water into agricultural Palestinian land.

Al-Ayyam quoted Saeb Erekat, secretary general of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) saying that Israel controls over 90 percent of the area of the Jordan Valley.

The papers also reported on the Palestinian cabinet meeting yesterday, which stressed the importance of holding elections, as reported in the headline in al-Hayat al-Jadida, and that the government is going to pay overdue bills for 130 local institution, as reported in al-Quds.

Al-Ayyam quoted Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh saying that the tax crisis with Israel is not over yet.

It said Israel has agreed to release Hiba Labadi and Abdul Rahman Meri, two Jordanian citizens held in Israel for months, following strong intervention by the Jordanian government.

It quoted Hamas leader Yehya Sinwar saying in Gaza that there are 70,000 young men who can carry weapons and fight and tens of thousands of rockets.

It said objections were raised to Israeli plans to build a cable car system over Jerusalem’s Old City.

Al-Quds said UN official Nickolay Mladenov discussed with Hamas leadership in Gaza how to make the elections succeed.

It said in a report by its Washington correspondent that a new US State Department report on terrorism drops the term occupied territories when reporting on Palestine and Israel and ignores the terrorism of the Israeli settlers.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Israel is applying racist laws in the occupied areas in order to impose its sovereignty.
