RAMALLAH, Thursday, October 31, 2019 (WAFA) – The shooting of a Palestinian woman by Israeli military gunfire in Hebron coupled with renewed Israeli settlers’ attacks on olive harvesters dominated the front page headlines in Thursday’s issue of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.

The dailies reported that Israeli forces opened fire at a woman in Hebron’s Old City, injuring her.

The woman, identified as Suheir Ahmad Said Salamiyah, 37, was shot purportedly for attempting to stab soldiers at the entrance of the Ibrahimi Mosque, known to Jews as Cave of the Patriarchs.

Al-Quds also reported that a Palestinian young man was shot and injured from Israeli military gunfire in Barta‘a town, southwest of Jenin city.

The dailies said that Israeli settlers attacked olive harvesters in the town of Huwwara, south of the northern West Bank city of Nablus, injuring at least three harvesters.

According to al-Quds and al-Ayyam, Israeli forces delivered a demolition notice for Tahaddi (Challenge) 13 in As-Samou‘ town, south of Hebron.

They added that Israeli settlers barged their way into flashpoint Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, raising tensions with Palestinians in Jerusalem’s Old City.

The dailies highlighted President Mahmoud Abbas’ meeting with Chairman of the Qatari Committee for Gaza Reconstruction Mohammad al-Emadi at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah.

Al-Quds said in this regard that Abbas briefed al-Emadi on the latest developments in the Palestinian arena.

Abbas was reported in al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida reiterating his call for holding elections in the West Bank, the Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem as soon as possible.

Al-Quds said that the dispute between Amman and Tel Aviv over the Jordanians illegally detained by Israel, particularly Hiba al-Labadi and Abdelrahman Meri, has exacerbated.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said that the Palestine Prisoner’s Society (PPS) welcomes Jordan’s decision recalling its ambassador to Israel in protest of the latter’s ongoing detention of al-Labadi and Meri.

It added that the health conditions of Palestinian prisoners hunger-striking in Israeli jails have further deteriorated, and al-Labadi was rushed to the hospital.

Health Minister Mai al-Kaileh was reported in al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida announcing an agreement that brings the crisis gripping the Augusta Victoria Hospital, also known as al-Mutala Hospital, in Jerusalem to an end.

The agreement is expected to allow the hospital to resume providing treatment for cancer patients referred by the Palestinian Authority’s Health Ministry.

According to al-Quds, An-Najah National University is ranked among the top 50 Arab universities according to QS University Rankings 2020.

It said that the United Nations agency responsible for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) changes the job title of “camp services director” (or the camp services officer) to “local community services director”.

Member of Fatah Central Committee Hussein al-Sheikh was reported in al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida declaring an open war on brokerages or intermediaries who blackmail Palestinians seeking permits to work in Israel.

Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that an Israeli soldier who killed a Palestinian teenager near the Gaza perimeter fence was sentenced to 1 month community service!

Othman Rami Helles, aged 15, was killed by an Israeli military sniper, who shot Othman in the torso, on the 13th of July 2018, during weekly Palestinian protests along the eastern Gaza-Israel perimeter fence.

Both dailies reported that Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah appointing Aziz Rahim Al-Daihani as the Gulf state’s first ambassador to the State of Palestine.

According to al-Ayyam, Amnesty International calls for putting pressure on Israel to cancel the administrative detention against Palestinian prisoners.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said that Oslo’s newly installed City Council is banning Israeli settlement goods and services from public procurements.

Premier Mohammad Shtayyeh was reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida pledging that the government would proceed with steps to economically disengage from Israel and affirmed an earlier decision to bar the import of Israeli cattle and other livestock.

Finance Minister Shukri Bishara was reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida announcing that the government would disburse the first installment of the debts it owes to the construction sector within 10 days.
