Government denounces Israeli bill slashing PA money over stipends paid to Palestinian prisoners’ families

RAMALLAH, February 18, 2018 (WAFA) – The national reconciliation government Sunday denounced Israel’s Ministerial Committee for Legislation’s approval of a bill that would see Israel deduct money from the Palestinian Authority’s tax revenues in protest of the stipends given by PA to the families of Palestinian prisoners and those who have been killed by Israel.

The law, which needs to pass three readings at the Israeli Knesset before it becomes law, will see Israel deduct the equivalent amount that the PA pays to the families of those who lost their lives during attacks against Israelis and families of Palestinian prisoners serving time in Israeli jails, from the taxes it collects on behalf of the PA.

The national government slammed the approval of the legislation law by Israel’s ministerial committee for legislation as a piracy, a theft of money, and yet another crime added to the Israeli occupations’ ongoing crimes committed against the Palestinian people.

The government affirmed that such a decision is invalid under international law.
