Student injured during Tulkarm university protests over Trump‘s announcement

TULKARM, December 12, 2017 (WAFA) – At least one Palestinian was injured on Tuesday during renewing clashes between Israeli forces and students at the campus of Palestine Technical University in Tulkarm, northwest of the West Bank, according to local sources.

Israeli soldiers stationed at a military base adjacent to the campus clashed with students who were protesting against US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as capital of Israel.

The army fired rubber-coated steel rounds at the students, injuring at least one of them. Soldiers also used teargas canisters to disperse the protesting students, causing many suffocation cases among them.

During the clashes, the soldiers harassed some of the journalists who were covering the events and asked them to leave the area.

For the past week, clashes have occurred at the campus repeatedly as students continue to protest Trump’s decision. There are also sporadic clashes in other points of friction with Israeli army in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

More than 1,300 people have been injured in Israeli fire since the beginning of unrest in the occupied Palestinian territories following Trump’s decision.
