RAMALLAH, Thursday, June 18, 2020 (WAFA) – Israeli forces Thursday overnight detained 11 Palestinians from various parts of the West Bank, said the Palestine Prisoner’s Society (PPS).
PPS confirmed that Israeli forces rounded up a Palestinian after ransacking his family house in Umm Ash-Sharayet neighborhood of al-Bireh city.
Forces also detained another after breaking into and searching his house in al-Mazra‘a al-Gharbiya town, north of Ramallah.
In the southern West Bank, PPS confirmed an Israeli military raid into Bethlehem city, resulting in the detention of another.
A similar military predawn raid was conducted in Nahalin village, southwest of Bethlehem, resulting in the detention of another. He was identified as an undergraduate student.
In Hebron district, Israeli military vehicles stormed Beit Ummar town, north of Hebron city, where soldiers rounded a Palestinian.
Soldiers also barged their way into Surif town, northwest of Hebron, where they rounded up another.
In the Jordan Valley, undercover Israeli forces, known as Musta‘ribeen, sneaked their way into Aqbat Jabr refugee camp, south of Jericho, using a Palestinian-registered civilian vehicle and kidnapped a Palestinian from his house.
In Jerusalem, Israeli police, who were providing protection to a group of settlers who forced their way into Al-Aqsa Mosque, detained a Palestinian from the mosque compound.
Police also detained a father and two of his sons after assaulting them in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Wadi al-Joz.
Israeli forces frequently raid Palestinian houses almost on a daily basis across the West Bank on the pretext of searching for “wanted” Palestinians, triggering clashes with residents.
These raids, which take place also in areas under the full control of the Palestinian Authority, are conducted with no need for a search warrant, whenever and wherever the military chooses in keeping with its sweeping arbitrary powers.
According to Palestinian figures, roughly 5,700 Palestinians -- including numerous women and children -- are currently languishing in Israeli detention facilities.
Under Israeli military law army commanders have full executive, legislative and judicial authority over 3 million Palestinians living in the West Bank. Palestinians have no say in how this authority is exercised.
